Meet Duc Truong

Duc Truong is a passionate community leader and small business owner running for Delegate in Virginia’s 76th District to bring common-sense leadership to Richmond.

Duc Truong and his family immigrated to the United States in 1975, first settling in the Midwest.  His parents worked hard and eventually saved enough money to start their small business and pursue the American dream. They started a successful Vietnamese restaurant, running it for several years, then sold that business and started a new venture opening an Asian grocery store.

From a young age, Duc learned the value of hard work and perseverance by watching his parents run a series of small businesses. Duc’s support for small businesses began by watching his parents work from humble beginnings to successfully achieve the American dream. He employs the same hard work and perseverance running his own small business today.

Duc received both his undergraduate and J.D. from Creighton University.  After law school, he headed to DC, where he worked on policy for U.S. Senator Norm Coleman.  Duc would soon call Virginia home, where he started working for a Vietnamese nonprofit. He would later work for Bob McDonnell’s successful Gubernatorial campaign. Later, Duc opened his own insurance company providing insurance for small businesses.

Duc lives in Chesterfield County with his wife, Gladys.

Duc on the Issues
Small Businesses

Virginia’s small businesses are struggling. Chesterfield’s small business community needs relief from record-high inflation and worsening economic conditions. As your next Delegate, Duc will ensure small business owners have access to the resources they need to ensure they remain open during these times. Duc, a small business owner, will fight against government mandates that will increase the cost of doing business in Virginia.  He will always stand to protect small and family-owned businesses across the Commonwealth.

Economy

Like many Virginians, Duc and his family feel the pain of rising inflation and worsening economic conditions. As Delegate, Duc will fight to cut taxes and let Virginians keep more of their hard-earned money. By prioritizing workforce development and investments in critical education and infrastructure initiatives, Duc will work to equip Virginians with the skills and resources necessary to adapt to our changing economy.

Healthcare

Affordable healthcare is something that is important to all Virginians across the Commonwealth. He supports lowering the cost of healthcare by allowing small businesses in similar industries to create risk pools to reduce the cost of health insurance. Duc will work across the aisle with lawmakers in Richmond to ensure Virginians have access to affordable, quality healthcare.

Law Enforcement

Duc is a strong advocate for our law enforcement officers and will be a strong advocate for them in Richmond. Duc will work with local law enforcement leaders to protect our streets, schools, and homes from criminals by fighting for better resources, additional training, and increased funding.

Education

Duc is a strong proponent of educational freedom and access to quality education. In Richmond, Duc will fight to expand opportunities for families by removing academic boundaries that restrict their outcomes and investing in additional resources for students. Duc will ensure parents are in the driver's seat of their kid's education, and control remains at the local level, not the state level. Duc also believes “Entrepreneurship” should be taught in high school. Not everyone is going to college, enlisting in the military, or getting a job. Some students want to start their own businesses, and Duc will support classes that teach entrepreneurship in schools.
